We all have secrets. Every last one of us. It could be something simple: your obsession with watermelon. It could be something amusing; the feel of silk against your skin is a turn-on. Or, it could be something that would turn the world upside down. Maybe even right-side up.
"Y/n!" I heard Lieutenant Abarai yell.
I spun on my heel, "Yes, Lieutenant?"
He smiled down at me. The red-haired Shinigami was intimidating to look at but was truly a softy at heart. He seemed stressed. His eyes were tired, and his muscles were tense.
"Is everything alright?" I questioned before he spoke up.
"Captain is asking for you."
I must have looked like a deer in the headlights, eyes wide in shock. "What?" I croaked.
"You know he returned injured from fighting an Espada?" I nodded, "He asked for you to help with his recovery and captain's duties."
I quirked a brow, "Really? Um, alright. I'll be right there."
"He's currently in his office."
"He shouldn't be out of bed!" I shouted.
"That's why I came so quickly. I was hoping he would listen to you."
Why on earth would that stubborn man listen to me? His pride and ego...
"Let's go."
We began walking to the Squad 6 barracks quickly. As we did so, I thought back on my life as a Soul Reaper. I wasn't assigned to a seat, and I wasn't even assigned to a squad, really. Renji liked to joke and call me a floater, which was pretty accurate. I had captain-level knowledge and a lieutenant-level kido, and my overall strength was about a third, possibly at the lieutenant level. I studied under Kisuke Urahara and Yoruichi Shihōin, and I had stealth force training. I'm not sure how I ended up a floater, but I always suspected that Kisuke had a hand in it. I was often his point of contact.
"He seems on edge. More so than usual." Renji commented.
"He's always been a stubborn mule. Even when we were younger." I snorted.
"You've known the Captain that long?"
I nodded, "Yes. We..." I didn't know how to finish the sentence, "We were close."
We were in an arranged marriage, to be exact. Between the two of us, our stubborn pride and egos got the better of us. We pushed each other away in rebellion and refused the marriage. I haven't really spoken to Byakuya in decades. In passing, sure, during a meeting. In actual conversation, one-on-one... at least thirty years.
Renji didn't press anymore. My tone must have hinted that it was a sore subject. We continued our way in silence and arrived quickly at the Captain's door.
knock knock
"Enter." He sounded strained.
"Thank you, Lieutenant." It was my nice way of dismissing Renji.
"Thank you, Lady Y/n." I cringed at the name. Most people addressed me this way, wanting to show respect, but I had no official rank.
I opened and closed the door quickly. He never looked up, just continued working. I took in his appearance while I had the time. His pale skin seemed even paler, ghostly white. His raven hair had its luscious sheen as always, it was down, without his normal adornment. His black, almost violet eyes scanned the document in his hands. Those hands that I've dreamt of holding me. Those eyes I've- not now! He was dressed normally, but no Captain's haori.
"What do you think you're doing?" He still didn't look up when he asked the question.
"I think that's my line," I smirked as I crossed my arms.
His pen froze, and he finally raised his head to look at me. Those piercing eyes are taking me in. I shivered beneath his intense gaze. His normally emotionless eyes held something in them I could quite place. Before I could even attempt to figure it out, it was gone.
"Lady Y/n, what are you doing here?"
"Please don't call me that, Captain." I sighed, "Your Lieutenant said that you requested me."
The look of confusion passed over his face, and then it was replaced with one of mild anger.
"You didn't ask for me, did you?"
"No." I could see he wanted to say more, so I didn't answer. "What exactly did he say?"
He had sat down the pen, giving me his full attention.
"We can discuss that as I escort you home."
I rounded the desk and stood next to him. I glanced at the paperwork he was working on; it was a request form. Before I could read it completely, he turned it over. He turned in his chair to face me fully. His eyes analyzed me again. I always felt so small when I stood under his piercing gaze. I felt inadequate. I felt exposed. It was a strange feeling that only this man gave me.
"Your hair is longer." That is an odd statement from him.
But yes, my h/l h/c hair had indeed gotten longer. I was wearing it down today; it was my day off.
"Yours has, too." I commented, "Now let's go." My hand twitched, wanting to run my hands through his hair.
I finally extended my hand, offering to assist him. He ignored my hand and pushed himself up with the help of his desk and chair. When he winced, I slipped beside him and placed his arm around my shoulders. His scent hit me: cherry blossoms with a deep forest musk laced in. It's never changed, and it was always intoxicating. My own knees were weak.
"You shouldn't be out of bed." I scolded.
"I have duties."
"Which is why you have a capable Lieutenant. And now, me."
We began the short journey to his home. His muscles were tense, and he would flinch from time to time as we walked.
"Renji said you asked for me. That you asked for my help with your recovery and to stay caught up on your duties."
"Hn." I rolled my eyes at his reply.
"Quit being stubborn," I mumbled.
"I'm letting you help me, aren't I?"
I found myself rolling my eyes again. We approached his family home, and I spotted one of his servants.
"Can you please draw a hot bath for Lord Byakuya? Please be sure to add the salts Squad Four sent over."
"Yes, Lady Y/n." The servant gave a full bow to me, which made me cringe.
"Why does that bother you so much?"
He's in a strange mood.
"I'm not a noble. I have no rank." I shrugged, "I don't see why I need to be addressed that way."
"It's a sign of respect. You've earned it."
I snorted. "Thank you, Captain," I replied with a blush, barely dusting my cheeks.
We approached the bathing suite and I helped him to sit. I knelt next to the bath and rolled my sleeves. I dipped my hands in to check the temperature. I added more oils to the bath and made sure towels were laid out. I began untying my uniform.
"What are you doing?"
"Are you able to do this yourself?" I snapped.
I continued undressing, wordlessly. While I didn't mind being traditional in most ways, I did find that the human world's bra and panties were way more comfortable than using bindings and fabric. So here I stood with my hair up now, in nothing but f/c bra and panties.
I turned to see Byakuya's eyes looking everywhere but at me. I gave a small giggle that still didn't catch his attention. When I knelt next to him, he had no choice but to acknowledge me.
"Why are you doing this?" His tone made me flinch.
"I want to help you."
Even though I'm sure it hurt him to move so fast, he still managed to catch me off guard. He gripped my wrists tightly as I began untying his uniform.
"You owe me nothing."
"It's not a matter of owing you something, Captain Kuchiki. You're my comrade and in need of help. Allow me to help you. Please."
"Comrade." He whispered to himself, though I heard him.
"I'd hardly call us friends, Captain."
"Quit." His stoic face took on a hard look. He released my hands.
"Quit what? Speaking? Undressing you? Helping you?"
"Calling me 'Captain'."
"Oh. Okay. I apologize, Lord Byakuya."
His robes fell from his shoulders and pooled around his waist. I helped him stand, and the remaining fabric fell to the floor. He also opted for modern undergarments, and stood in boxer briefs. I lead him to the bath and we both stepped in. His formal bath could hold four people, so there was plenty of room for us. He hissed as he sank into the water fully. I couldn't suppress the small moan that came from me.
"This bath was always my favorite. The water is always perfect." I found myself defending the moan.
"You always enjoyed water. No matter where or what kind."
"I guess you're right." I mused.
Once I had him settled in his seat, I gathered his hair and placed it in a bun. Lacing my hands with kido, I began to examine his upper body. He seemed to tense and relaxed as my hands brushed over him softly, with a light feather touch. I almost died on the spot the second I heard him sigh, hiding the small moan he let pass his lips. Just barely, the tips of his ears turned red. I smiled softly.
"You were injured a week ago?"
"Yes."
"You should be back to normal in a few more days. I'll be out of your hair then."
I had moved to sit in front of him, letting my hands trace his thighs and calves. I glanced up at him to see that he was looking at me, unwavering.
"Is something wrong, Lord Byakuya?" I sat straight.
His cheeks were flushed from the heat of the bath. I'm sure mine were as well.
"When we're alone, just Byakuya is fine."
Alone? We're never alone. After these next three days, I'll go back to never seeing you.
"Then I insist you drop the 'Lady' from my name as well."
He gave a slight nod but said nothing more. The silence was uncomfortable, but I still allowed myself to relax and sink further into the water. Water always did calm me. I'd lay in a bath or lake until I was pruned. I'd stand in a rainstorm until I was drenched and shivering. One of my fondest memories of Byakuya was when he found me standing in his family's courtyard doing that exact thing. A smile tugged at my lips as I closed my eyes, remembering that day.
The water ripples as Byakuya moves. I sat up straight and opened my eyes and mouth to begin scolding him. I clamped my mouth shut when I saw Byakuya standing directly before me. The way we were currently, I was looking directly at his bare chest. I looked up with my e/c eyes, concern and curiosity etched into my features. I found his dark violet eyes were softer than usual.
"Stand up." He was always so direct.
I found myself standing without question. He was still a good six inches taller than me, so I still had to peer up at him. I blinked in confusion. I couldn't find my voice to ask him what was wrong. I simply sat there, looking like a complete idiot, I'm sure.
"The servants can handle the rest. You may take your leave." He finally spoke.
It was like a slap to the face. I felt my face fall, feeling dejected. And rejected. What else did I think was going to happen. I'm a fool.
"Seriously? That's what I get? I'm here helping you, and you dismiss me?" The heat rose to my face in anger and embarrassment.
"I-"
"Don't. Just don't. Renji came to me, seeking my help. I'm not entirely sure why he thought I would be any better at managing you than anyone else. You're a heartless ass, Byakuya Kuchiki. All you've ever done to me is push me away. I've never been good enough for you. I've never lived up to your standards." I huffed and spun on my heel. I made my way to pull myself from the water as I mumbled, "Heaven forbid I let myself fall in love with a normal person."
I couldn't move. Mostly because I couldn't believe I had just that. My secret slipped from my mouth like I was confessing my love for something simple, like candy or sake. I couldn't move because Byakuya had found the strength and speed to pull me to him, kissing me. My mind was reeling, I was frozen. My arms outstretched, unsure if I should push him away or pull him closer.
"Show me." He coaxed, whispering into my lips, "Show me you love me." What?
My body moved on its own. I kissed him this time, wrapping my arms around his neck and standing on my tippy toes. As our tongues met, I sighed into the kiss. He even tasted like cherry blossoms. I can't do this. I pulled away slowly, not wanting to hurt him.
"I should go. I'll let your servants know you're ready to lay down."
His hands slid down my arms, depressingly. They splashed into the water as I stepped away from him. I removed myself from water and simply dressed, not caring that underwear was soaked. In more ways than one. I found my entire body aching for his. Not a word was spoken as I made my way out. I never looked back. I never looked to see the look of pain on his face. Pain from my rejection, not from his wounds.
The next week passed, with Renji visiting every day. Begging me to visit his Captain again. He said Byakuya seemed out of character since my last visit. He was even quieter. He was distracted, which is something the Captain of Squad Six wasn't effected by. I denied every request he gave.
"Lady Y/n?" I looked up from my desk in the Squad One barracks.
"Yes?" It was someone I didn't know.
"Your presence has been requested by Captain Kuchiki." The pen I held snapped. Crap.
"I'll head that way soon. Thank you."
I couldn't avoid him forever, I suppose. We'd have to talk about the kiss. He'd be returning to duty soon, tomorrow, in fact, so we'd be seeing each other in passing again. I walked to the Squad Six barracks slowly. I analyzed every possible outcome I could think of. The walk wasn't long enough. I was here.
"Lieutenant, do you know where Captain Kuchiki is?"
"Lady y/n," he greeted, "Yes. He's in the training room."
"Thank you."
I made my way to the training room, wondering why he would request me to meet him there of all places. I slid the screen open and stepped in. I turned to push the screen close and was met with a wooden sword being tossed my way. I caught it on reflex and looked to the Captain.
"Fight me."
He came at me, not allowing me to answer. He still didn't wear his Haori. His sleeves rolled to his biceps, and he was shoeless. Today, I was in my shorter uniform, and it stopped mid-thigh. I blocked his strike and kicked my shoes off.
"Is this really necessary?" I asked as I moved to strike back.
He didn't speak. He kept striking, always on the offensive. Leaving me to always defend. When my back met the wall behind me, he was able to knock my weapon away, my wrist already bruising. I winced.
"Ow. Damnit, Kuchiki, that hurt."
Suddenly, his wooden sword was pressed against my shoulders. He pushed against it.
"Why did you walk out on me?"
I gave a dry laugh, "That's what this is about? You asked me to leave. So I did." I bit out.
He clicked his tongue and stepped back. I analyzed him now. He was on edge. He was tense. This wasn't like him at all. Something was bothering him. He began walking away.
"Hey!" I called as I jogged up to him, "Don't ignore me."
He glanced down at me but didn't say a word. He just kept walking.
"Did you even ask for me this time?" It was a genuine question. Maybe Renji sent someone else to tell me, so I didn't question it.
"Yes."
I didn't pay attention to where we were walking until I realized we were back at his quarters. He stepped inside and held the door open still. A silent request for me to join him. As I entered, he closed the door behind me.
"What is going on?" I asked, turning to face him.
I crossed my arms in a huff and waited. My stance showed my agitation. I'm sure my face showed annoyance as well.
"I need to discuss something with you." I could see the hesitation.
The thing about Byakuya, is most people can't read him. Kisuke and Yoruichi could quite easily. I had a hard time, but usually I would figure it out, or close to it.
"Captain, this isn't like you. Will you please just tell me what's going on."
He walked to his desk that sat inside his bedroom. He picked up a piece of paper and returned it to me. He scanned the paper and handed it to me. I almost choked. In my hand, I held a request form for me. Not just for me. For me to named the third seat of Squad Six.
I looked up to meet Byakuya's eyes, staring in disbelief. I blinked a few times, still not finding the words to ask the question.
"Why?" I finally croaked out.
"You deserve it." Political answer.
I shook my head, "Why, Byakuya?"
His eyes seemed to sparkle when his name slipped from between my lips. So casually, like when we were younger.
"I want you close." I didn't say anything, but he saw the confusion in my eyes, "When I was injured. I did ask for you."
"What?"
He walked away and sat on the futon in the room. I heard a small sigh as he pulled his adornments from his hair. I took a seat on the coffee table, sitting directly in front of him. I placed my hands on his knees, showing him I was there.
"I know how I am, which is harsh. You know how I was raised, showing no emotion. After Hisana, I became even more distant and cold." He paused, and I sat silently, allowing him to collect his thoughts. "When I was injured. All I could think about was you." What? "I wanted you close so I could keep you safe. I wanted you close," he finally looked up, noting the shimmer in my eyes, "so I could see you every day."
"Byakuya," I whispered.
I was scared this wasn't real. I was dreaming. This man. This man is trying to be honest. He's trying to open up to me.
"Hisana will always have my love." It hurt, but I knew it was the truth, "But you will always have my heart."
The tears finally fell. Rivers of silent tears fell onto my lap. I averted my eyes to fall upon my hands, which he now held in his. His thumbs rubbed the backs of my hands gently. I took a hand away to rub my eyes clean.
"Kiss me." His tone was soft, but I still felt like it was a command. From my Captain.
I moved slowly, unsure at first. I placed my hands on his shoulders to balance myself as I straddled him. He looked up at me as lowered myself down. I bit my lip as I scanned his face. I leaned in, gasping as his hands pulled me the rest of the way in. The kiss the other day was sloppy and rushed. This kiss was tender and loving. But the hunger behind it was undeniable.
I felt the heat between my legs grow, causing me to grind against him. Byakuya groaned into the kiss at the friction against his growing excitement. His skilled hands loosened my robes, brushing them down my shoulders. We didn't break away as he stood with me, making his way to the bedroom where his futon roll lay on the floor. He sat me on my feet gently as he continued to remove my uniform. I reached behind me to undo the modern bra and let it fall to the floor. He hooked his fingers at the hem of my panties and slid them down in one fluid motion.
I knew he would be a silent lover, but the way his eyes raked over my body spoke volumes to me. I watched as he untied his robes and let them drop to the floor. Soon, he was fully undressed, and so was I. I stepped closer, pressing my naked form against his. I craned my neck to kiss his jawline. When I reached his ear, I gave a small kiss to it before giving him a breathless request.
"Take me."
Byakuya guided me to the floor. As I lay on my back, his hair forms a curtain around us, and he stares down at me. He gave me a short kiss before making his way to my neck. A shiver escaped me when his tongue trailed my collarbone. He kissed a path down my body. His hands held a firm grip, kneading appreciatively at my flesh.
"Byakuya." The softest whisper of his name passed my lips as his tongue slid against my folds.
I arched into him, allowing him better access. The thrusts of his tongues were hard yet languid as if he had all the time in the world. His thumb made slow circles around my clit, pushing me closer and closer to the edge.
With no words, my climax hit. My legs shook as I moaned. I wanted to return the favor and show him my affection, but he had other ideas. After he was satisfied with tasting me, he kissed his way back up. He pressed himself to my cunt and pushed slowly. I'm sure he didn't mean for it to be a tease, but I couldn't wait any longer. I bucked my hips, pushing him in further.
As soon as he was fully seated in my core, he kissed my forehead tenderly. A silent action that spoke a million words. The three I knew he'd never say were the most important. He began thrusting slowly, still leaving me breathless. It was like I was complete now. He was the final piece of the puzzle, making me feel whole again.
He laced his fingers with mine and placed my hands above me. His eyes never left my face unless he was giving me sweet kisses across my face. Or long, passionate kisses where our tongues danced together. He let one hand go so he could caress my body, brushing past my nipples.
I began meeting his thrusts with my hips, matching his quickening pace. I could feel the next wave of pleasure building. The next high just within reach. As his name became the only word I knew, I felt him swell with his own release. A small groan of my name from his mouth made me blush crimson.
He kissed me again and held me close. He rolled us both so he was on his back. I moved myself off of him, removing him from inside me. Byakuya wrapped his arm around me, pulling me close to him. I nuzzled into his chest, inhaling deeply. Our scents mingling together. He kissed the top of my head as he brushed my h/c hair from my face.
I smiled as I remembered something from when we were younger, "Our little secret." I whispered.
"Hn. Our little secret." He mumbled sleepily.
